Happy Gemini season! It is, in my humble (biased) opinion, the best time of the year. Geminis may be controversial, but we are an entertaining, creative breed! In fact, many of today’s trends were started by a Gemini. Are you in love with ballet flats? Thank Lily-Rose Depp. Are cowboy boots your favorite statement piece? Angelina Jolie did it first. Even the iconic white t-shirt and denim jeans combo became a timeless classic thanks to Gemini queen Naomi Campbell!
A little Astrology PSA before we begin, though: the actual subject is not as straight-forward as it might seem. While this lookbook features people with a Gemini sun, an individual’s sun sign is not necessarily the ruler of their fashion sense. I am a novice when it comes to Astrology, but I heard an individual’s Venus sign influences their sense of style more so than their sun sign. I also have a Gemini Venus though, so I had no personal experience to draw from when deciding which planet was most influential. Therefore, for the sake of simplicity, the only criteria to be in this lookbook was to have a Gemini sun.
As I researched the featured Gemini icons though, the similarities in their styles could not be overlooked. After spotting this pattern, I couldn’t help but wonder what each person’s Venus sign was. A quick Google search told me that the only featured individuals with a Venus in Gemini were Naomi Campbell and Riley Keough.
Gemini Traits and Clothing Trends
Adaptable
Geminis are known as social chameleons, and the same can be said for their style. Angelina Jolie’s outfits could easily be dressed up or down to match the vibe of any event.
Contrasting
Geminis are the master at bringing conflicting ideas together and finding the harmony between them. Naomi Campbell’s iconic plaid dress with bright blue stockings sounds like a jarring sight on paper, but is a Vivianne Westwood dream in reality! Two loud articles of clothing often repel each other, but America’s best supermodel embraced them, creating a truly unique beauty.
Duality
Geminis’ dual nature translates into their clothing as well. Any of Lily-Rose Depp’s individual pieces from the 7 featured outfits could be mixed and matched for countless outfit combinations; None of which would look bad or out of character.
Experimental
Geminis are often described as “curious to a fault”. Emma Chamberlain’s signature loafers frequently make an appearance- even when they seem out of place. Knit crop top, baggy jean shorts, and a pair of loafers… In 2010, the world would’ve recoiled and called that styling experiment a fail. Now, we’re pinning her looks to our Pinterest boards, and featuring that very outfit in a Gemini lookbook.
Flexible
Geminis are flexible, often going with the flow- so long as the flow is playful and entertaining. A Gemini needs their clothes to have the same quality! Riley Keough’s wardrobe can be summed up in one word: free-flowing. Is she at a farmer’s market? Is she on a date? Is she going to play at a park? Maybe- maybe even all three! And that ‘maybe’ is all the reasoning needed.
Objective
Geminis love objectivity, and it is especially true in fashion! Trends and fast fashion fads aren’t going to influence a Gemini’s style. They need objectively good pieces! Aside from a few statement pieces, those objectively good finds tend to be the basics which is why a Gemini has so many interchangeable looks.
